The Cardboard King of Kenross

Welcome to Kenross Containers Ltd, where our boxes are built tough, and our story is built on Geordie grit!

It all started back in the 1950’s, on the bustling streets of Newcastle, with a young lad named Neville Turner. A true Geordie, Neville was born and bred in the heart of Tyneside, his spirit as strong as the bridges over the Tyne.

Right from the start, Neville wasn’t one to shy away from hard work. He grafted his way up from humble beginnings, learning the ins and outs of his trade but all along Neville had a vision, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to the wonderful world of ‘Cardboard’ and his vision; To build more than just boxes, to build a legacy that became Kenross Containers Ltd.

With a Geordie’s characteristic determination and a healthy dose of friendly charm, Neville built his company from the ground up. He wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, working alongside his team to ensure every box that rolled off the production line was perfectly made, presented and worthy of carrying the KCL stamp of approval.

Over the next four decades, Neville’s passion and dedication became the cornerstone of KCL’s success. He fostered a company culture that mirrored his own values – hard work, innovation, and a genuine care for both customers and employees.

Today, Kenross stands as a testament to Neville’s legacy. We’re still a family-run business, carrying on the Geordie tradition of excellence. We use the latest technology and eco-friendly practices to create the strongest, most sustainable corrugated boxes around.

At our core, we remain true to Neville’s vision, to provide exceptional service and top-quality products, all with a friendly Geordie smile. So, whether you need sturdy shipping boxes or customised packaging solutions, you can trust Kenross to deliver.

History

With over 55 years of experience, investment and knowledge, your project is in safe hands.

55yrs

1969

Kenross Containers was founded in a small unit, supplying corrugated boxes for local businesses. With just a handful of people the business gradually outgrew its location to the point where a move was imminent.

1974

Kenross Containers takes up the recently vacated Kippax Mill which had historically been used by Goodshawfold Manufacturing.

1981

Kenross Extends the offices and warehouse to facilitate its growth and the inclusion of stock holding for customers. This period also sees KCL move more towards printed packaging and POS items.

1988

KCL invest in a new 2 colour casemaker and further extend goods inwards to cope with the growth of their converted cases work.

1994

KCL team visit Corrugated ‘94’ in Paris and further invest in a new flat bed die-cutter with a view to automating die-cut production. Moving away from hand stripped platen work.

1996

KCL installed its first corrugator. This major investment included the building of a separate unit to house the machine and an additional warehouse to provide storage for reel stocks.

2003

The Kenross team travelled to Taiwan to source a single facer for the corrugator but went a bit crazy and decided to buy a full brand-new corrugator!

2012

As KCL experienced more demand for die-cut glued work, the business invested in a multi-point gluer along with an additional flatbed die-cutter. This allowed KCL to remain competitive and capitalise on a new market.

2019

With the advent of ecommerce KCL took delivery of a Fidia self-adhesive taper. The machine creates a quick and secure seal for ecommerce brands. Allowing them to increase speed of packing and provide security for any returns by using two self-adhesive tapes.

2021

As the unboxing experience became ever more popular KCL took delivery of a brand-new rotary die-cutter with inside/outside print capabilities. Not only does this machine offer a significantly higher print quality but it also die-cuts and prints in one operation.

2024

New machine incoming…
